I like Herman Cain. The guy has style, energy, and a fierce enthusiasm for reducing the size of government. I'm also happy to see him making headway with 999: Finally people are getting on board with the notion that taxes are too complicated AND we can do something about it!
But there is one think I don't like about 999. Actually two thinks. No, make that three thinks.
First I don't like the first 9. 9% income tax. You know, the US didn't have an income tax until early in the 20th century. Less than a hundred years ago. If you ask me, that's the real America! A land where freedom rings rather than the imposition of a greedy and power hungry central authority!
The second thing I don't like? That would be the second 9. Why the hell should we institute a sales tax at the national level??? We don't have that yet? Why would we agree to ANOTHER tax? Another way for the government to hold us under its thumb and squeeze us dry? No, cities and states already have sales taxes... I think that's plenty!
You've probably already guessed the last thing I don't like. That would be the third 9! We are in the middle of a recession. Let's set businesses free and watch them soar! As usual, the private sector, not creaky and despotic old federal government, will be our ticket to prosperity.
Now I know what some of you will say. "Pierro, how are we going to get by if the government isn't allowed to collect ANY taxes?"
To that I say, I think the Feds owe us a couple of completely tax free years! We've been paying taxes every year for as long as any of us have been alive. Isn't it time for a break?
So, I'm a fan of Cain. I like where his is going with 999, but I think we can do better... Let's hear it for 000!
God bless America!
